ABSTRACT

Objective: This work seeks to identify which variables best explain the generation of value in creative economy companies that have high investment in intangible assets. The study focused on the creative economy sector of Porto Digital in the city of Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. Methodology: The methodology used was exploratory research. For the examination of the variables, the multivariate analysis was used with the application of exploratory factor analysis, and for confirmation, the Spearman correlation model. For data collection, a semi-structured questionnaire prepared in Google Forms was sent to the companies in the second half of July 2021. The responses were validated using Cronbach's Alpha, and the suitability for using factor analysis was measured using the KMO and Bartlett tests. All results were found and demonstrated using the IBM SPSS Statistics 26 software. Results: The variables highlighted by the results were grouped into three groups and presented in an accounting statement model using the Resource-Based Theory definitions. Finally, the CEO of two of the most prominent Creative Economy companies in Pernambuco gave his opinion on these variables. These comments were placed in the financial statement explanatory note format. The results showed that 13 variables were classified into structural, relational, and human capital. Study contributions: Creative economy companies essentially work using the ability to manage all their intangible resources. This article is the first to provide empirical evidence on the perceptions of managers of creative economy companies in Porto Digital do Recife about the importance and contributions of intangible assets to generate value in their businesses, as well as assess the organizational resilience of these companies in the context of the covid-19 pandemic.

ABSTRACT

Even after over 2 years of the COVID-19 pandemic, research on rapid, inexpensive, and accurate tests remains essential for controlling and avoiding the global spread of SARS-CoV-2 across the planet during a potential reappearance in future global waves or regional outbreaks. Assessment of serological responses for COVID-19 can be beneficial for population-level surveillance purposes, supporting the development of novel vaccines and evaluating the efficacy of different immunization programs. This can be especially relevant for broadly used inactivated whole virus vaccines, such as CoronaVac, which produced lower titers of neutralizing antibodies. and showed lower efficacy for specific groups such as the elderly and immunocompromised. We developed an impedimetric biosensor based on the immobilization of SARS-CoV-2 recombinant trimeric spike protein (S protein) on zinc oxide nanorod (ZnONR)-modified fluorine-doped tin oxide substrates for COVID-19 serology testing. Due to electrostatic interactions, the negatively charged S protein was immobilized via physical adsorption. The electrochemical response of the immunosensor was measured at each modification step and characterized by scanning electron microscopy and electrochemical techniques. We successfully evaluated the applicability of the modified ZnONR electrodes using serum samples from COVID-19 convalescent individuals, CoronaVac-vaccinated with or without positive results for SARS-CoV-2 infection, and pre-pandemic samples from healthy volunteers as controls. ELISA for IgG anti-SARS-CoV-2 spike protein was performed for comparison, and ELISA for IgG anti-RBDs of seasonal coronavirus (HCoVs) was used to test the specificity of immunosensor detection. No cross-reactivity with HCoVs was detected using the ZnONR immunosensor, and more interestingly, the sensor presented higher sensitivity when compared to negative ELISA results. The results demonstrate that the ZnONRs/spike-modified electrode displayed sensitive results for convalescents and vaccinated samples and shows excellent potential as a tool for the population's assessment and monitoring of seroconversion and seroprevalence.

ABSTRACT

December 2019 saw several cases of pneumonia of unknown origin reported in Wuhan, China;the cause of this unknown disease was later identified as the new severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the epidemiological profile of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the North Region of Brazil to assess possible correlations between demographic, social and health factors as well as adherence to safety protocols and the epidemiological profile of COVID-19. Information was obtained via a socio epidemiological survey carried out using Google Forms shared on various social media platforms from May 13 to 20, 2020.6,781 people, living in the State of Para, participated in the study of which only 682 (10.1%) had been diagnosed with COVID-19. Of these, 43 (6.3%) required hospitalization. 155 (23.5%) tested positive by RT-PCR associated with computed tomography. The RT-PCR test, with no association with other methods, was performed in 77 (11.6%) cases and serology performed in 360 cases (54.6%). There was a higher prevalence of confirmed cases (457, 67.0%) in females than in males, and the predominant age group was 30 to 40 years of age (214 participants, 31.4%). Considering the relatively homogeneous demographic profile of the sample, continued research is vital, preferably multi-centric studies, to obtain relevant data regarding the epidemiological dynamics of COVID-19;this data will allow the development of pandemic-prevention strategies that consider the social, cultural and political aspects of specific locations.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Myelitis is a rare neurological complication of COVID-19. We will describe a patient with post-COVID-19 myelitis manifesting as partial Brown-Séquard syndrome. A 33-year-old male presented with progressive weakness of the lower limbs, evolving over the previous week. Six weeks before, the patient had had COVID-19, from which he had already recovered. Neurological examination revealed right lower limb weakness and reduced pain sensation on the left lower limb, with a T5-T6 sensory level. Thoracic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a right intra-medullary lesion spanning from T3 to T4 with T2 signal hyperintensity. Cerebrospinal fluid study was normal, and SARS-CoV-2 was undetected. After excluding active infection, the patient received methylprednisolone and the symptoms improved. One month later, the neurological exam was considered normal and there was a significant lesion reduction on MRI. SARS-CoV-2 infection should be considered as a possible aetiology for myelitis in all patients, even in those with mild infection or asymptomatic.

ABSTRACT

The pandemic of the new corona virus, in addition to taking the lives of millions of people, left many more in conditions of extreme misery, putting at risk the near future of environments that do not have the conditions to react to the crisis. With the unstable economy, without jobs and no money, people go hungry, and many families are devastated. Cooperation between cooperatives, then, serves as a model of action to guide the Brazilian public power in the process of social intervention. Combining forces, through action with the participation of private initiative, can be a strategy of acting directly with the needy, taking it with the appropriate means so that they perceive that they themselves can create their own economic development alternatives, to transform their lives. © 2021 University of Deusto. ABSTRACT

In a pandemic context caused by covid-19, the education had to adapt to a new global social-political scenario and find different ways to comply with society. In that sense, there is an increasing virtualization that boosts learning-teaching processes in virtual scenarios. The objective of this paper is to publicize the production of a virtual event that presents the results of collaborative international projects, developed by students from the Department of Production Engineering of University of Brasilia, in this time of social distancing. This research is applied, quali-quantitative and descriptive. As data collection technique to measure spectator’s satisfaction, it was used a questionnaire, based on a SERVPERF model that measures service quality, that contemplates the evaluation of the criteria such as tangibility, reliability, promptness, security and empathy. The event had 164 people registered and 93 actives, the majority of them students from 4 courses that apply the PBL methodology, and develop projects in an integrated way. The satisfaction evaluation questionnaire was answered by 27 spectators. The average score for the general evaluation of the event was 9.22 on a scale that goes from 1 to 10, a result that displays a high satisfaction index by the spectators with the event. It is feasible to observe that the Scrum methodology was effective for the event project management. © 2021 University of Minho. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Given the need to restructure healthcare education institutions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, hybrid education has been identified as an alternative to reorganize educational activities. The objective of this study is to describe hybrid education development in healthcare education. Materials and Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted based on the PRISMA (preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses) guideline. A peer-reviewed search was conducted across four electronic databases between July and September 2020. Descriptors used were "distance education", "learning", "health", "nursing", "medicine", "dentistry", "physical therapy" and "hybrid education". Selected articles were classified based on their level of evidence. Results: 49 articles were selected, including quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods studies. Experiences in the development of hybrid education in multiple healthcare courses were found. Hybrid education has been implemented based on the rotation model, a la carte model and Flex model. Discussion: Hybrid education has been gaining more and more importance in the academic scenario of healthcare education. Based on this, students manage to stand out in their learning process as they become the main agent of this process by actively learning using multiple education tools provided by their teachers. Conclusions: Successful hybrid education can be related to its innovative, flexible, cost-effective nature and the ability to turn students into key players in their teaching-learning process, which ends up influencing their own academic performance. © 2022 by the authors.
